That Is Why We Should Not Listen To Others
How many times have you talked about an idea or something you thought you wanted to do and other people have shot you down? You are all excited about something and tell a loved one…a spouse, a parent or a close friend and they don’t support you. Sometimes you quickly forget about it and agree with them that maybe you aren’t able to do this.
That is why we should not listen to others. Think of the famous people in the past who were told that something couldn’t be done. What if they would have listened to others? Especially those who thought they knew them well? We may not have electricity, planes or even computers! All of these great things began with an idea and were completed because someone stuck to what they knew could happen. They completed their dream and created something amazing!
In Matthew 13:53-58, Jesus returned to his home town. They could not believe that the boy they knew, the carpenter’s son, could do such great things that he was doing. Because of their unbelief, he did very little miracles there. What if only they would have believed? They would have witnessed many more!
That is why we should not listen to others. They will limit us in our thinking. They will limit us in our actions. We will be less apt to do things around them because of the way they think about us. We will be unable to fully believe ourselves if we continue to hang around them.
That is why we should not listen to others when they “try” to help us by telling us what we can’t do. We should only allow God to tell us what we can do. We should talk to Him through the day and know that if we take what He wants us to do and do something daily toward His goals for us, that we can do anything. Great things will happen when we stop listening to what others believe and only focus on what God knows we can do.
ACTION STEPS:
1. Think about something big that you have been thinking about doing.
2. Write down how this big action can help others and what steps you need to take.
3. Don’t listen to others who don’t believe that it can be done. Talk to those who do believe.
4. Pray and ask God to help and guide you to do the first things first. Take action!
Mark 6:4-6 “Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”And because of their unbelief, he couldn’t do any mighty miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their unbelief.
